History:

The ward was established in mid-1951 to admit a great number of patients with poliomyelitis inhabiting the southeastern Poland. By the end of the 1950s it transformed into the Ward of Neuroinfections, a reference ward for children with infections of the central and peripheral nervous system in Małopolska Province. Because of its neurological and infectious profile, employment of pediatric neurologists and development of neuroimaging and neurophysiological technology the ward was named the Ward of Neuroinfection and Pediatric Neurology in 2002.

Diagnostic and Treatment Capabilities:

The ward has 35 beds, including 4 intensive care beds, and additionally 6 beds for neonates and 3 baby incubators. We admit patients up to 16 years of age with infections of the central and peripheral nervous system. We also offer diagnostic and treatment services to children with other neurological diseases, especially epilepsy and with most infectious diseases. The Ward provides a full-profile treatment for most severe neuroinfections, ranging from intensive care to multidirectional rehabilitation. Sick children can stay with their parents or guardians, if enough free space is available
